Affiliate disclosure

This site is free to read and is meant to be funded by affiliate commissions. Here's exactly what that means.

When a reader clicks a provider button marked as an affiliate link and signs up, the provider may pay this site a commission. The reader pays the same price either way. Every provider button on the site says, right next to it, whether it's an affiliate link or not, and every affiliate link is tagged rel="sponsored".

At launch, no affiliate links are active: every button goes directly to the provider and says so. As affiliate relationships are approved, the buttons for that provider change, and its page says so under "Affiliate relationship".

Commissions don't affect prices, statuses, the "watch out" notes, the first-year figures, or the order of any list. A provider can't pay to be listed, to move up, or to be removed. Providers with no affiliate relationship are treated identically in the data.

This disclosure follows the US Federal Trade Commission's guidance on endorsements and affiliate marketing. Prices and terms are the providers' own and can change at any time; the date beside each price says when it was last read.
